European patent granted for our lazy eye treatment

European patent granted for our lazy eye treatment
Good news from Munich. On 1 July 2026, the European Patent Office granted patent EP4604902 for the system behind Vedea Amblyopia Therapy (VAT). The patent applies as a European patent with unitary effect in the participating EU countries, and also in the United Kingdom and Spain. In the Netherlands, the idea was already protected by patent NL2033360.
What the patent protects
The patent protects the way VAT treats a lazy eye. Inside the headset, each eye sees its own image, and the games are designed so that a child can only win them by using both eyes together. Through play, the weaker eye is put to work.
The system does not need eye tracking. That means a smartphone in a simple headset is enough, and treatment can take place at home.
Why this matters
We have been working on this idea since 2020. The European patent secures it for Vedea and strengthens our position with partners who want to bring the treatment to more children. A US application is pending.
Meanwhile, we are preparing a follow-up study with several hospitals. More on that soon.
